  • What kind of yoga experience do I need?
To get the most out of this training, its ideal if you have at least 3 months of a consistent (at least once a week) yoga practice. If you're unsure, let's connect and explore this together. Email sadiebarryoga@gmail.com.
  • Does this make me a certified yoga teacher?
In the world of yoga, a 200hr certification is the foundational training to start teaching, however, you do not need to have a certification to start teaching. Conversely, you may have trouble finding a job, or clients, without one. Additionally, the foundational skills learned in a basic (200hr) teacher training will prepare you in ways this training doesn't (ex: names of poses, how to teach the mechanics, how to write sequences etc). It will, however, teach you how to create a safe and supportive relational field (the container), identify how trauma shows up on the mat, use props for common modifications, tying recovery themes to yoga philosophy and more. At completion of this training, you will receive a certificate. Teachers who are already registered with the Yoga Alliance will receive 16 CE credits.
  • Who is this training for?
Sober Yoga Training was designed for anyone who supports people on their recovery journey including, but not limited to, drug and alcohol counselors, therapists and yoga teachers. If you're unsure whether this training is for you, lets connect to explore your curiosity. Simply email sadiebarryoga@gmail.com.
  • Do I have to have completed a basic (200hr) yoga teacher training before taking this one?
No, however, having some foundational experience with yoga is helpful. The curriculum doesn't include how to teach the mechanics of yoga poses or how to write a sequence, etc. Additionally, you'll learn more than yoga poses. This training includes a number of somatic interventions and meditation. Note: A done-for-you recovery themed curriculum in written and video format will be provided as a part of the training so you can take the guesswork out of it (of course you have creative freedom, feel free to make your own).
  • How long is the training?
It is held over a 3 day period.
  • Module 1: Trauma & Addiction
Understanding the nervous system and dysregulation Learning how to connect polyvagal theory to yoga Identifying ways that trauma shows up on the mat Mitigating trauma response activation
  • Module 2: Group Structure
Creating a welcoming environment Designing group guidelines and agreements Establishing a group format Choosing prompts and check-in questions
